Former Utopia ‘Collapsar’ 10″ EP Release Party

Posted in News News on January 10th, 2013 by George

Damnably Presents…

Former Utopia Collapsar EP Launch Party
w/ Plaided, smallgang
Friday, February 8, 2013
Sebright Arms
31-35 Coate Street
London, UK E2 9AG [map]
8:00pm – 18+[Buy Tickets]

Damnably is celebrating the release of Former Utopia‘s 10″ ‘Collapsar’ EP by having party time with very special guests Plaided & smallgang plus Fettkakao DJs all the way from Vienna!

Former Utopia
FU, or Former Utopia, are an East London based trio alternate between alt-folk and heavy post-punk. They’ve had radio play from BBC6Music’s Tom Ravenscroft, Gideon Coe and XFM’s John Kennedy, and toured throughout the UK and Europe with Julie Doiron & Shonen Knife and shared stages with Bitch Magnet, Bottomless Pit, Uzeda, Shannon Wright, Chris Brokaw & Geoff Farina, Thee More Shallows, Swell, Bellini and David Grubbs.

“A gentleman blessed with an imposing baritone halfway between Bill Callahan and Absentee” The Line Of Best Fit

“FANTASTIC!” John Kennedy, XFM

PLUS

Plaided
Plaided are from Vienna, Austria. They have a unique sound, great songs and like the more cerebral bands of the world open up something larger than you can quite get a finger on. The bands debut album ‘Playdate’ made some important Best of 2012 lists and they play the UK for only the second ever time just before hitting SWSX Festival.

smallgang
smallgang are a half-japanese London based trio fronted by two baritone voiced brothers that have been making a name for themselves with volcanic live shows exploding tight poppy post-punk with effortless complexity and crazed solo’s. Bitch Magnet, Shonen Knife, Versus and Geoff Farina love these guys and so should you!

It will be available in the shoppies from 31st January 2013, and for pre-order in their webshop now!

FU European Tour with Shonen Knife

Posted in News News on November 11th, 2012 by George

FU’s Rama and George hit the road with Japanese legends Shonen Knife for the European leg of their ‘Pop Tune’ 2012 tour.
We played gigs in Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland and had a wonderful time with Naoko, Ritsuko, Emi knife and Ian our Driver.

Ritsuko played bass with us on Blue Fugue at the Bastard Bar in Tromso which is on the top of Norway and a beautiful place with very warm and happy people. That was maybe the highlight
but seeing our friends Rune,  Milla, Gerben, Jeroen and Tom was so nice. Huge thanks to the promoters and people that bought our records and asked us to sign them and to Canopus Drums who supported us.
At Loppen in Copenhagen we picked up a great review which you can read here in Gaffa and you can see a load of pictures from the tour on our facebook page here

Next we play upstairs @ The Vibe Bar on Nov 28th supporting 2 incredible bands: Bottomless Pit (Feat X Silkworm/Seam/Light Coma) and Uzeda from Sicily. Adv Tickets are £8 @ http://www.wegottickets.com/event/189162 It’s Bottomless Pit’s UK debut and the next day we’ll be dj’ing the Scrawl, Shannon Wright and Joel R L Phelps gig at Cargo-which is also an amazing line up-particularly as Scrawl and Joel have not played Europe in a over a decade each and Shannon has a full band for this one.
